I apologize in advance to those who are reading this and don't have kids because I will be talking about poop. That's right. Poop. For those of you who do have kids, I don't apologize because I'm sure you have heard it all before. :)
Caleb let us practice with only one diaper before he let 3 days worth of food processing in his stomach rip into the second diaper. I ran to Kyle in his office and yelled, "He pooped, he pooped!" Kyle got up and we both walked to the changing table. After plopping Caleb down we held our breath, ready for the putrid smell to engulf our senses. Did you ever wonder why God made poop smell terrible? Does it have a purpose for smelling so yecchy? I've never really wondered until now.
I'm off track--back on track now--After we changed him we both looked at the poopy diaper. Kyle was like, "What do we do with this?" I said, "Ummm, I don't know." I ran and got the sheet of directions that came with the diapers. It said nothing about washing a poopy diaper. Nothing! Can you believe that?
Kyle, the daring one, picked up the diaper and dipped it in the toilet. Almost nothing came off.
"Swish it," I said, so Kyle swished it. A little more came off.
"Rub it off with some toilet paper," I said. Kyle took some toilet paper, and bless his soul, rubbed some more off.
"It doesn't come off very well," I commented.
"You think I should call my mom and ask her what she did?" he asked.
"Yeah, maybe."
To make a long story short, Kyle got the answering machine and so we were still on our own. We ended up getting most of the poop off the diaper. I should rephrase. Kyle ended up getting most of the poop off the diaper by rubbing it together (and that makes me love him EVEN MORE than I already did). I shoved the diaper in the washing machine, soaking it for most of the day with the rest of the diapers. It's in the dryer now and I have to say, it looks pretty clean.
I think I like the cloth diapers. But to be completely honest, I was relieved to take off the 6th and final diaper and put a disposable on Caleb for the night. After having cloth diapers on him all day, seeing him in a disposable made it look like he had lost 3 pounds just in his butt. Cloth diapers are great but they are definately bulky!
"I guess these arent' that bad." "Another layer, mom? Are you kidding me?"
Actually, the diapers don't seem to bother Caleb at all. I don't know if he even notices a difference.
Well, I'd better head off to bed. Caleb didn't sleep very well last night and I REALLY WANT my sleep tonight. G'night.

You figured out what to do.
You rinse it out in the toilet and rub it together to get the junk off. Then we had a diaper pail to soak diapers in until we washed them. I would first rinse them and spin the water out and then wash them.
(Diaper liners were nice)
Oh, the joys of poop.
LOVE MOM
I haven't done it myself, but I remember, when I was little, my mom taking the poopy diapers and holding them tightly while flushing the toilet, allowing them to be sucked down a little bit. That might help get some of it off so you don't have to do so much rubbing!

Cloth diapers are much easier to clean when babies are on "real food"....but....
Another hint, if you can hang them in the sun to dry after washing the stains come out with sunshine! Its a miracle!!
Best wishes from a former "four in diapers"Mommy (just for a few months) :)
