Such was the case this Christmas.
I bring you: The Christmas Quote Board
(And I won't be offended if you don't think they're funny. You might have had to just be there.)
*My mom made a turkey for dinner one night and Caleb took an interest in the turkey carcass. While he was eating he blurted out in a matter-of-fact tone, "I don't like real turkeys. I just like dead turkeys."
*The next morning Caleb woke up early and grandpa was there to greet him. Grandpa was having oatmeal but my mom had bought some donuts the day before. He asked Caleb if he wanted oatmeal or a donut with sprinkles. Caleb replied, "I don't think I need oatmeal."
*Lori: "I hear sugar is more addicting than cocaine."
Angie: "Oh, I totally agree."
*Angie: I needed to contact my professor.
Kyle: About what?
Angie: About finding a chalade.
Kyle: What?
Angie: Finding a chalade?
Kyle: What's a chalade?
Angie: I said, "financial aid".
*Listening to Isaiah count in the background.
"2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2."
*(Isaiah is bouncing bouncy balls in the kitchen.)
Grandma N: "Isaiah, I don't like pumpkin pie on my balls, I like them plain."
*Caleb: "Grandma, even though you live far away, I still love you."
*Isaiah's been into saying "No" lately. Most of the time he uses the word correctly, but I also think he says no because he thinks it's really cool. It's just a haunch.
Angie: "We need to put a diaper on Jay." (Because she had just taken his dirty one off.)
Isaiah: "No."
Angie: "We don't need to put a dipaer on Jay?"
Isaiah: "No."
Angie: "So he should just pee all over the place?"
Isaiah: "Uh huh."
*Caleb and Grandpa F got really into singing "Down By the Bay" this Christmas. There were some pretty interesting rhymes--the most difficult I give to Kyle: "Have you ever seen an antelope eating a cantelope?"
But the most interesting was from Caleb. Do you notice a pattern at all?
Have you ever seen a fork kicking a cork?
Have you ever seen a floor kicking a core?
Have you ever seen a bear kicking a care?
Have you ever seen a tree kicking a key?
Have you ever seen a table kicking a cable?
Have you ever seen a ceiling kicking a keeling?
Have you ever seen a van kicking a can?
Have you ever seen an airplane kicking a careplane?
Or maybe the best would be from Grandma F, when she said, "Have you ever seen a deer climbing a tree?"
Caleb wouldn't let her live that one down and reminded her that it needed to rhyme every time it was her turn.
------------------------------------------
And now I must make room for the hundred or so pictures I took this Christmas. (Don't worry. I think I only posted 17.)
Here's Caleb's church Christmas program, properly named "The Festival of Cuteness". Caleb and the 3 & 4 year olds sang two songs with the group. He and Isaiah sing them all the time now.
I spy Caleb. Do you?

It's tricky. He's behind a donkey. He had the option of wearing a costume but refused because he wanted to be a dinosaur. I tried to explain to him that dinosaurs weren't at the stable where Jesus was born, but he still wanted to be a dinosaur.
Caleb also had a YMCA preschool program we went to. He rolled his shirt up pretty much the whole time during the singing but it was still really cute. He got to make a Christmas tree afterward.
We hung out in the gym for a while after the program.
Did I mention it was a youth gym?
Right after that we head to Iowa to hang out with my family and had tons of fun. Caleb discovered Grandpa's shop.
It snowed on Christmas Eve so Kyle and I took out the snow scoops even though there was a perfectly good snowblower in the garage, and got crackin'. Isaiah decided he needed to scoop too.
This kid is in love with the outdoors. Snow, sun, wind rain, freezing temps, you name it--he likes it. That trait is most definitely from his father.
We opened presents throughout the weekend. One of the things we gave (cousin) baby Jay was a stuffed monster. Monsters have sort of been a theme in his room, his clothes, and his bibs. I figured I'd add with a homemade scary sort of thing.
Speaking of scary, guess what Caleb got for Christmas? This wasn't even planned. A dinosaur costume!!

Baby Jay might have been a little freaked out by it. Isaiah definitely was.
Then Caleb found the saw in Grandpa's shop.
Jay didn't seem to think it a threat.
The highlights from my family's Christmas was:
-playing knockout and tennis at the Rec Center
-watching my sister open her surprise gift of a laptop
-playing several games of Catan and another game of Ticket to Ride
-of course Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a great meal, the Christmas story, and presents
-sleeping in and taking naps almost every day (ahhhhh, heavenly)
Then we went to over to celebrate with Kyle's family in Minnesota. We came on Christmas day and opened presents right way.
Isaiah wasn't quite sure what to do with his new basketball hoop so he jumped on the box.
And then wrestled in the wrapping paper.
Then threw the wrapping paper in the trash can and climbed in.
Actually, now that we've brought the hoop home, we've taken it out of the box and he's had lots and lots of fun with it. It's absolutely perfect for him.
Caleb's favorite presents were legos. Wow, did he get excited over them. I bet he spent a total of 15 hours playing legos over the Christmas break. I've heard this obsession lasts for well over 10 years. Am I lucky? Or in trouble?
Highlights from our trip to Minnesota include:
-playing Bananagrams for hours on end, along with lots of other games
-singing "Down By the Bay" over and over
-doing a puzzle
-enjoying really really good food
-loving the gorgeous snow, especially when the trees looked like this...

Happy New Year!
Great post!
I was hoping to see the quote board. I started laughing again while reading through it. Thanks for including Jay's monster, and some pictures of Jay. We had a blast, and I'm sorry Caleb got freaked out by the finger post:)
Miss you guys.
Thanks for posting the pictures of Caleb's Christmas program too! Very cute! Funny that he didn't want to be an animal.... What a nice Christmas we had! Great pictures/post! G-ma F.
