Caleb's and Grandpa's Birthday!

Caleb turned 7(!) on the 25th.

He really truly is getting to be a regular big kid who has friends and doesn't ask for any attention from me except for food and drinks while they're here.  He has homework and sleepovers and reads chapter books.   He's getting so big that when he play-shoves me, there's a very real chance I could fall flat on my butt.  He loves doing things with little and fragile pieces but alas, his brother and sister catch wind of it and wreck it or spread it into many different piles.  50% of the time when I ask him what he wants to do, he'll say "play legos", 48% of the time he'll say "make something out of paper".  The other 2% is anyones guess.  Take this, for example...

He loves coming up with new things, changing the rules of a game to make them more interesting, and re-inventing things to give them more uses.

He's really liking his Family Bible Library books and picks one of those up when he goes on time-out or reads at night.  It's fun to see his interest in the Bible and God grow.

We're working on sharing, cleaning and answering questions.  Entitlement is a big thing we're working on right now as well, but I think we'll get through these eventually.  Also, I'm pretty sure he has a sense of personal space but he loses it completely at mealtimes.

He's a champion spaghetti slurper, phenomenal war player (card game) and is super responsible when putting himself to bed.  The kid loves crafting as well.

Here's a good example of a craft: a paper mache Star Wars something-or-other.  This is before he painted it.

The kid wanted to make his own pancakes one morning, so he did.  Yes, I just said that he made his OWN pancakes without any of my help.  Impressive.

Here's one of 3 paper things Caleb and 2 friends made at school during choice time.  It has a whole story that goes with it.  There are trails, bombs, traps, and all that good stuff on here.

We celebrated his birthday in style a couple different times.  We went to Chucky Cheese ("Chubby Cheeks", according to Livia) with Grandpa and Grandma F to celebrate and they let him pick out his own BIG bike!!  He wanted one in orange because it was his new favorite color.  (I'm guessing orange has beat out red because of the athletic suit in orange he just got for Christmas.)

We also had a big birthday bash at the bowling alley with some of his friends.  Here he's "popping out more eggs".

Grandpa and Grandma N wanted to help celebrate as well and gave him a few awesome things too!

Grandpa's gift was really special as he made the box that held...

the brand-new super sharp knife with a handmade deer-antler handle and a handmade sheath!  (I think Caleb might get his creative gene from his Grandpa N!)  This will come in handy if he goes hunting with dad next fall.

My dad (Grandpa N) had his birthday a few days later.  Today, actually.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!

The kids gave him 60 reasons why he was great...

to celebrate his big 6-O!

It was a lot of fun writing these and even more fun reading them as I had some of the same good memories as my brother and sister.  We love you, Dad!
