3rd day into summer vacation...

We're only into summer vacation by three days and summer has truly arrived!  I was a little nervous about what I was going to do with the adjustment of 3 kids home all day long, but truly?  It's been pretty great.

We've played outside almost every hour we've been home, trying out our new scooters and bike.

Our lawn is getting much watering.

The fire pit came out and so did the tent. (But it happened to be too hot to sleep in it that night, so we just played in the tent.)

Summer means flowers!  I discovered the local greenhouse in town and a friend of ours made this beautiful planter for me.

We found a frog on the deck!

And a 0% chance of rain doesn't necessarily mean a 0% chance of rain.  We discovered weather.com to be dead-wrong when we walked home from church this past Sunday.

We had some friends over today and all 6 kids ran right to the sandbox.  They played outside for 15 minutes before the boys burst in and yelled that there was a baby deer outside.  We thought, "Oh, by the fence?" But no, they meant right by the deck, snuggled up to the flag.

So naturally we banned the kids from the back yard and hoped the mama came back for her baby.

That reminds me of a story from a few weeks back.  Kyle put fertilizer on the lawn and we had to keep the kids from going on the lawn for a few days so we explained to them that daddy put poison on the lawn.  Isaiah asked, "Am I going to die?"  Kyle quickly replied, "No." but then he reconsidered and spoke the everlasting truth with a "Well, yeah.  Eventually."  He explained at length that the fertilizer would just make his feet itch, not die but everyone dies, etc. yada yada.  Apparently Isaiah didn't quite understand the lengthy explanation because Isaiah asked me a few days later, "Mom, can I go in the back yard or will I die?"

I got a chuckle out of that one.

Summer means bubbles and staying in your pajamas all day long.  For Livia, she has a strict dress code for herself of either jammies or just undies and nothing else.

Caleb and I took a Mommy-Son vacation to a friend's wedding in Lincoln and we stopped at our old stomping ground on the way.  Here's a picture of Caleb at 9 months.

And here he is on the Thee Same Duck almost 7 years later.  He's grown a bit.

We also stopped at the Omaha Zoo on the way.

His favorite animal was the cheetahs and he got a stuffed Cheetah named Speedy to commemorate the occasion.   You can sort of see a few cheetahs under the tree way in the back by the fence.

Bring on the rest of summer!  I'm ready. :)
