And Then There Were 6

 From the beginning....

A year ago, adding to our family wasn't even a thought in our brains.  In fact, I had given away almost all my baby stuff and had no intention or care of ever seeing them back.  But God started working in my heart and I started listening.  I told Kyle I think we're supposed to have a 4th child, whether we adopt or not.  Kyle, though a little apprehensive at first, was totally on board.

A couple of months later God gave us our answer that this child would be biological.

I don't have many preggo pictures.  It's funny how quickly pregnancy goes when you have 3 other kids.  (I can say that now, since I'm not pregnant any more.  You wouldn't have heard me say that it goes fast these last couple of months, for sure!)

Last Thursday, they wheeled me into the OR....

and out come a healthy and rosy pink boy at 5 lbs 14 oz, with APGAR scores of 8 and 9  (And maybe not a huge fan of coming out?  Don't mind that finger.)

Kyle peeked over the blue drape and told me with a smile, "He looks like Isaiah."  Then he went over with the nurses to check him out, clean him off, cut the umbilical cord, yada yada, and then FINALLY 10 minutes later...

I got to meet him for the first time.  As you can see, he stopped crying by then and we had a sweet little moment until daddy carried him off to the nursery.

There they measured him and weighed him and checked him over some more.

And then 45 minutes later we got to meet again.  Here I learned that Kyle had named him Lincoln Wesley.  We decided a few weeks ago that Kyle was going to name our baby.  It took a lot of pressure off of me and I hoped it was a special thing for Kyle.

The proud papa.

Brothers and sister came to our hospital room later and were greeted with the songs of screaming.  Lincoln was taking his first bath and absolutely NOT happy about being cold.

Caleb was really excited to see his baby brother, though he did tell me he'd have to practice plugging his ears more.  Isaiah was nervous and stayed away from Lincoln, caring more about the IV sticking out of me than the newest addition to our family.  Livia peeked over at Lincoln, danced around a bit, and then whispered something to me.  After the 3rd time, I finally caught on to what she was saying.  "I love this," she told me with a smile.

After his bath, Lincoln calmed down to his sleepy self and Caleb was the first in line to hold him.  I don't think I ever saw a prouder big brother.

After Isaiah was convinced I was okay, he decided to check out his new sibling.

Then it was Livia's turn to hold him.

And Grandma's turn.

And then finally Isaiah decided to hold him.

Caleb has since held him more times than I can count.

What's in a name?
Kyle named Lincoln  not after Lincoln, Nebraska, where we came from before we got here, but because we liked the name.  We had both thought out some names that we liked and I decided that I trusted his opinion enough to give him full authority on the matter.  We also liked Abraham Lincoln and I randomly had come across books, movies and other literature about him during my pregnancy.      Wesley is Kyle's Grandpa DeKam's middle name.  This is also the Grandpa whom he worked with during his high school summers and was a spiritual mentor to him.

Personality so far...
Lincoln loves to be held.  Swaddling is a bonus.  Being cold is the absolute worst.  This includes diaper changes and baths.

Cold!

Still cold!

His sleeping habits are irregular.  He's had 3 good nights and 3 bad nights.

Looks:
Well, I think Kyle had it right when he said that he looks most like Isaiah's baby pictures.  Hmmm, maybe?  It's hard to tell.

But Lincoln definitely has his own little look.  So serious too.

Kyle's mom mentioned he reminded her of Kyle's baby pictures.  I'd have to agree.

I think once he gets a little meat on his skinny bones we'll have a better idea of his look.  I think we can all agree he's pretty cute.
