A Labor Free Weekend

Saturday morning--Kyle's Birthday!! I made him monkey bread for breakfast and stuck a couple of trick candles in it. The trick was on us though, because the bottoms of the candles melted and we ate a couple pieces of waxy biscuits.

After breakfast we headed off to Fremont to meet my parents at Bryson's Airboat Tours on the bank of the great, deep Platte River. Well, I might be exaggerating a little when I say deep. Okay, a lot. The deepest part is probably about 4 feet.

This was our boat. The engine had 700 horsepower. It was kind of crazy because it was about 10 feet from the shore and I figured we'd have to walk it to the water. But when the tour started we just "blew" to the water. It was crazy.
And here's our tour guide... After about 45 minutes of grazing over the sandy waters of the Platter River, looking at waddling geese, birds flying out of the waters and even a huge bald eagle, we took a break right smack dab in the middle of the river. Kyle was overjoyed.
Caleb was too. He absolutely loved being walked around by his grandpa in the slimy sand.
(Go Huskers!!) (Again, "Go Huskers!" Hence the red.)
The airboat ride was so smooth. It was almost like driving on the lake. It was really noisy, but my dad took his earphones off because he wanted to experience the ride! I say he's crazy. :) It was so much fun! Kyle said he now has a new appreciation for the Platte River. Every time we drive over it, it just looks like a dried up old river. Here's a bit of what it was like...

Afterward, we continued our journey and went back home. Since it was Kyle's b-day, we had the 'rents take care of Caleb while we went out to eat to Chili's and scarfed down the Molten Chocolate Cake for dessert! Mmmmm. After walking around Scheels for a while we decided it was time to relieve the grandparents of our child. (He's been really fun to be around lately, by the way. He's starting to jabber and give out cheezy smiles.)

While they were here, my parents also put up a swing right on our porch. I used it a couple times today already. It was so nice. He fell asleep and I read my book. (Pictures of the swing soon to come.)

Ahhhh.. now that's what Labor Day vacation is all about. Airboats, and dates and swings, oh my!

Nothing says happy birthday like an airboat ride.
