Easter Break: Part II

After being in Minnesota and Iowa for a while, Caleb and I left Kyle with his family and picked up my mom to travel back to Nebraska because my sister was going to be visiting from Colorado. Unfortunately, during Angie's trip, Caleb developed a slight fever and he was crabby. I mean CRABBY. If I picked him up, he whined. If I put him down, he cried. If I looked at him wrong, he whined. I later brought him to the doctor and she said it was probably just a nasty cold. I held my breath as she looked in Caleb's ears and let out a huge sigh of relief when she said they looked good, no ear infections.

On Saturday morning Caleb seemed to be feeling a little better so we took him on a shopping spree. He didn't seem to mind until we went home for dinner. After that, we took turns watching him at home while the others quickly went to a store or two.

My sister, my mom and I are huge bargain hunters. Unlike Kyle's opinion, I think it's very possible to bond while shopping. :) We had so much fun looking for great deals. Here is a picture we took the next morning. My mom's shirt? Just $4.50. My shirt and skirt together? Only 75 cents. A second hand store was having a "4 sweaters for a dollar sale" and my sister and I dug deep into the piles to find a couple nice sweaters. After church on Easter Sunday, my sister set up an Easter egg hunt for Caleb. She put little goldfish crackers in the eggs, but I don't think he ate a single one. He had too much fun putting the eggs in his basket to notice that there was something even in the egg.
Since Sunday, we have not stopped playing "Easter Egg Hunt" .

My mom brought along a little outfit of my brothers that he wore for his one year picture. We put it on Caleb and snapped a couple pictures. I'll have to get that picture of my brother and put them side by side.

And then the next day.....dum, DUM, DUMMMMMM!!!

I finally gave Caleb a haircut.

It took a team of four for the event: Kyle with the video camera, Angie with the camera, me with the scissors, and a little sugary, cherry sucker.

At first, I was really excited about getting the hair off his ears and being rid of his baby mullet, but afterward I almost cried.Afterward, Caleb DID cry.
I don't think he was still quite over his cold.

I also don't think I did the best job cutting his hair. He was really wiggly, although my sister made a valiant effort to keep him still. Cutting around his ears was the scariest part. Honestly though, if I could turn back time, I'd still do it myself. 10 bucks for 4 snips of hair isn't worth it.

And here they are, ready to go in the baby book. The little hairs that make my son look WAY to old.
I still get a little sad when I look at his newly cropped hair. He looks older: like a boy--not a baby. Does he have to grow up so fast?

The End.

***Clarification: Although most of the pictures on this post are of Caleb smiling, we had to work for those smiles. And work we did. "This Little Light of Mine" was sung possibly 50+ times, we let him feed us his food, we danced, we played peek-a-boo, we played Where's Caleb?, and we giggled hoping he'd giggle back. If I would have taken a picture every hour around the clock this past weekend, most of them would have looked like this.

75 cents?? those are some CUTE finds!

that haircut does make caleb look like a "boy" and not a "baby".. those are sad times. :( i think we probably have daredevils on our hands, from what i can tell of your posts. today, he tried to go down a huge slide at the park by HIMSELF and almost smacked me in the face with anger when I didn't let him! he doesn't know he's only one year old.
