He is truly, utterly addicted.
We had his two year well-baby checkup yesterday and I brought up the topic of the pacifier.
"Yeah," my doctor said. "I'd say it's a good time to take it away, before he gets too attached to it."
TOO LATE!
I think I might start the process after his birthday. I'm going to let you all know I'm starting next weeks so that when I try and put it off, you will say to me, "Hey, whatever happened to weaning Caleb from the pacifier?" and I will have to answer you.
The good news is Caleb is healthy and doesn't have to get his next shots until kindergarten!
AND I don't have to start potty training him (or even worrying about if I should potty train) because he'll probably regress when the baby comes anyways.
Thank goodness. That seems like too much work right now.
Off topic: I was playing around with Pioneer Woman's photoshop actions and came up with this. It needs some work, but it was fun to do. I think I look my age in this picture and I want to look my age. 26 years is a pretty good place to be at in life.

Cute picture!
As for the pacifier--good luck.
I think he's too young to bribe.
Glad he's healthy.

I've heard a lot of people say to not even attempt to potty train a boy until he's at least 3! Patrick learned at 3 1/2 and Sam looks like he might just learn in time for preschool in the fall, when he'll be 3 and a few months. So definitely don't worry about it yet! We had so many false starts with Patrick, and it's just not worth it. They'll let you know when they're ready!
OH, and good luck with weaning from the paci. All my boys decided they hated theirs around 3-4 months, so I've never had to do it, but it doesn't sound fun. It would be like us taking away Patrick's big bear and Sammy's special blankies... I definitely feel for you!!!
my dude is TOTALLY addicted to his paci. :( i know that other ppl think two is too old to have a paci, but i'm still undecided. maybe we'll try to relocate it to his room/crib only first? we need to get better at hiding them, if they're out in the open, he finds a way to get them and put them in his mouth. its his second greatest joy, next to ice cream. :)
i've heard the same thing as sarah about boys and potty training -- i have a friend who bought a book about one-day potty training and did it with all 5 of her kids. she told me it was useless to potty train before 2 years and 9 months old (?!?!) b/c they would just regress.. so many opinions and options!! just know that if decide to wait on both potty training and taking the paci away, our family will be right along with you! ;)
Don't push the paci thing before the baby.....but you could try the rule that it's only for nap/bedtime. (So you don't get the wierd looks in the store:)
Good luck!
Summer is a great time to potty train....hitting a tree can be loads of fun! (this summer OR next!)
the best advice I heard on potty training is really common sense: "wait until they can pull their pants down"--if they can't do that, how can we expect them to get to the toilet on time/listen to their bodies/get out of their clothes before getting on the potty! Usually this means waiting until 3!!
